GOVERNING BOARD

 

The Governing Board is the supreme decision making body of the Liberia Media Center. In line with its statutes, there are nine elected positions to the Board from eight sectors. Each member of the Governing Board is elected by a representative meeting of its sector, for a maximum of two, two years term.

The current Board is chaired by the Press Union of Liberia and has eight members including representatives from the community radio sector, women media groups, schools of mass communication, editors and publisher associations and the Executive Director of the Liberia Media Center.

The Board works to determine the center’s policy, strategy, main directions and activities and approves its annual activity plan, and budget. It appoints the Executive Director and sets the number of staff; organizational structure and salary fund, and approves regulations on reimbursement to the Board members, and the scope of the audit.

 

MEMBERS

George Barpeen
Mr. Barpeen holds the Chairmanship of the Center as President of the Press Union of Liberia. A journalist with vast experience in the radio, print and television sectors, Mr. Barpeen, is former Secretary General of the Editor’s Association. He is a seasoned journalism trainer and serves as Board Chairman for one of Liberia’s foremost community radio station, Super Bongese in Bong County.

Martin Kerkulah
Martin Kerkulah represents the Community Radio Sector as Chairman of the Liberia Community Radio Broadcasters Association. He is a member of the Press Union of Liberia’s “Grievance and Ethics Committee” and works as a civil society representative to the multi-stakeholder Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, LEITI.

Estella Nelson
Estella Nelson is a founding member of the Center and operates the Liberia Media Women Action Committee (LIWOMAC) – a prominent and active women media development and rights organization- as Executive Director.

Joe Mulbah
Joe Mulbah is Chairman of the University of Liberia’s Mass Communication Department, the premier of departments offering mass communication related courses in Liberia. He’s a seasoned journalism trainer, a media consultant and is on the verge of being conferred an LLB degree in Law from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law in Liberia. A former Minister of Information in Liberia, Mr. Mulbah holds two masters in Media and Communication; and International Relations.

Stanley Seakor
Stanley Seakor is Publisher of one of Liberia’s leading dailies, The Analyst Newspaper. In his capacity as President of the Publishers Association, he serves on the Board of the Center. Mr. Seakor and The Analyst Newspaper have bagged a number of professional awards for their contributions to professionalism in the Liberian media.

Augustus Fallah
Augustus Fallah heads the Editors Association and runs the Institute for Media Development and Dignity (MEDD). He is also publisher of the Forum Newspaper, a recognized journalism trainer and a media development practitioner.

Juliana Buoro
Juliana represents the Female Journalists Association and works as Deputy Managing Director at the state-run Liberia Broadcasting System.
