The workshop was convened at the SOS Social Center in Monrovia and ran from 5 to 6 June 2009. Eleven participants were drawn from a cross section of LMC’s top management, while the SUBAH-BELLEH ASSOCIATES (SBA), a local Management Consultants, facilitated the meeting of the minds.
Basically, the workshop reviewed LMC’s current programme activities and developed a 3-year workable strategic plan in accordance with the changing realities. The review of the Center’s programmes was necessitated by the fact that the organization exists in a competitive world and therefore saw the need to take a retrospective glance at its internal operations-human resource management and the organization’s various projects, with the view of adopting a novel and pragmatic approach in tackling future challenges.
Day One of the interactive forum focused on presentation of Strategic Planning, overview of LMC’s Mission and Vision, Assessment of the Center’s Core Values and the Review of LMC’s current Programmes and Organization.
Day Two delved into the SWOT ANALYSIS-by identifying the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats or challenges. The workshop also determined a new strategic direction through programmatic orientations-including the goals and objectives.
In a closing remark, SBA’s facilitators commended the LMC staff for its cooperation and desire to strategize for the future and promised to assist the organization in achieving this.
For their part, the participants described the strategic planning Workshop as timely, the appropriate path for a positive future and suggested that such process be carried out on a routine basis.
In October 2008, Trust Africa, in partnership with Humanity United, launched a civil society and private media strengthening initiative with focus on: (1) the programming capacity of partner groups through grant making; (2) technical assistance in addressing gaps in the areas of management, strategic planning, monitoring & evaluation and collaboration building.
As a Trust Africa Partner, the Liberia Media Center benefited from the strategic planning workshop based on a request for assistance to develop it’s a three-year strategic plan and a review of its financial management system. Click on the link below to view photos from the workshop.
