The Liberia Media Center has commenced a two-week on-the-job training session for eleven Mass Communication interns from the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU).

The training, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Mass Communication Department of AMEU, gets underway with a week-long Crash Computer Training. Under this component, students are learning “Introduction to Windows and the Basics of Microsoft Word.” Following the computer training session, broadcast students would then use their acquired computer skills to undergo a week-long basic Adobe Editing Training and Programming Production, using the Adobe software.

Students majoring in the print media will work with the LMC Media Monitoring Department to understand the basis of reporting, the daily challenges faced as a print reporter and the techniques of print monitoring. The LMC shall also conduct a vigorous working session to enlighten the interns based on the “Mass Communication Internship Job Placement Manual produced in 2007 and circulated to universities teaching Mass Communication courses.

At the end of the two-week training at LMC, the Interns will be deployed by the AMEU Mass Communication Department at various media institutions and organizations to gain practical experiences.

The Liberia Media Center (LMC) has successfully conducted training and placement for more than fifty senior students studying mass communication related courses from the University of Liberia, United Methodist University and AMEU under a UNESCO sponsored Internship Job Placement Program in 2007 and 2008. Under the project, LMC produced a handbook on Vocational Job Best Practices for internship programs around the country.

The internship exercise, like others conducted by the LMC, seeks to build a pool of professional media practitioners who shall help immensely in the revitalization of the media sector. It will last from June 15^th to 27^th and is the second of its kind conducted for interns from AMEU by the LMC since the completion of the UNESCO supported program.
