Monrovia, 25 June 2009: Following the publication of its maiden report on “Media Coverage of the Poverty Reduction Strategy and Information

Flow from Government Pillar Groups,” two Senior Government Officials have commended the Liberia Media Center for the level of efforts it placed into conducting the research.

The Ministers of National Defense and Gender and Development in separate communications praised the report and encouraged the Center to intensify its training activities for the enhancement of media capacity in driving the PRS process.

Minister Varbah Gayflor specifically thanked the Center for mirroring the work of the various pillar groups with respect to communicating the PRS and congratulated the LMC for “the objectivity and professionalism portrayed by the report” while concluding “ please be assured in the event we have to make an intervention on your behalf we will be glad to do so.”

For his part, the Minister of National Defense Brownie Samukai through the office of his Secretary said LMC’s launch of the report on the monitoring and documentation of information flow on the PRS implementation was excellent in educating the general public on the achievements of the four pillars and appropriate in enhancing the goals and objectives of the PRS.

Since January 2009, the Liberia Media Center with support from Humanity United and Trust Africa, began monitoring the flow of information on the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Information Minister, Dr. Lawrence Bropleh officially launched the report in May of 2009 at the Monrovia City hall, while several personalities from the media community, civil society as well as stakeholders graced the occasion.
